About Us
Conscious Breath Workshops is a unique immersion experience. Internationally certified breath-work/meditation facilitator Derek Thomas shares insights about the human mind and the benefits of meditation and breath-work, providing a refreshing and clear path towards understanding, implementing and achieving physical, mental and emotional health. He then guides participants through as series of specific techniques that induce a highly beneficial altered state of consciousness.
Today various forms of breath-work are being scientifically recognized for their overwhelmingly beneficial results both physically and mentally. Breath-work and meditation are now being practiced by people from all different walks of life - from high stress executives, yogis and therapists, to personal trainers, academics, professional athletes, Marines and Navy Seals.
Simple, yet highly effective scientifically proven techniques to:

The Benefits of Meditative Breath-Work Practices
The emotional intelligence and sense of well being gained through meditative practices creates a greater capacity for awareness of and compassion for oneself and others. It also increases clarity of thought, focus, patience, creativity, effective problem solving, clear communication and perspective.
If we remain unaware of how the faculties of the mind operate and the interconnectedness of both our minds and bodies we can quite easily run in circles for years, if not decades, unable to create the life changes we strive for. On the other hand, if we understand and implement the simple practices provided we immensely optimize our ability to create lasting positive change in all aspects of our life. Often, the transformation that occurs over a very short period of time will exceed even the wildest expectations.
These techniques, along with giving ourselves the opportunity to be vulnerable and let go of expectations offer results that far surpass what we formerly knew as scientifically possible for both physical and mental health.
This very powerful work has the ability not only to heal the physical body of ailments but the to heal conscious and unconscious emotional scars, long held story lines and the self limiting beliefs that are derived from them. Through this process we quite literally gain access to our mind and our body’s natural intelligence. This “natural intelligence” has too often been pushed far into the foreground of our awareness. It can be almost completely overridden by persistent compulsive thoughts, self talk and the desire to produce results. I like to say that we are slipping back into the collective consciousness and re-connecting with universal intelligence
Ironically, the very thing that makes humans unique intelligent beings, also has the ability to separate them from their true boundless potential, spirit and interconnectedness. By getting out of our own way we are able to see things much more clearly and actually heal deep-seated traumas, beliefs and thought patterns. The result is a highly therapeutic realignment and reset, as well as, many numerous health benefits for mind, body, heart and spirit.
All guests will leave a Conscious Breath Workshop with a clear understanding of Derek's unique & simple but highly effective proprietary breathing/meditation techniques for mornings (15 min), throughout the day (15 seconds at a time), as well as deeper intensive practices when so desired. When combined with these simple yet highly effective practices have the power to change the trajectory of your life.
During a Conscious Breath Workshop we utilize specific techniques including:
- Focused intentional breathing patterns
- Altering the rate, ratio and flow of the respiratory cycle.
- Both enhancing and minimizing various sensory inputs through the use of breath, musical vibration and guided visualization.
- Specific guiding techniques for relaxing our mind & body while engaging in these focused breathing patterns
- Use of aromatic plants and essential oils

Mind & Emotion
Mentally, we are tapping into deep rooted unconscious psychological constructs, and the emotions that fuel their looping. We are removing ourselves from cognitive thought patterns and into a stream of consciousness specific to each individual and their internal story. By connecting to awareness and gently rerouting the mind away from its habitual paths, new possibilities for great change emerge in both self perception and lifestyle. By creating space between thoughts, we begin to become aware of our inner dialogue. This is Emotional Intelligence: the awareness of the way in which we communicate with ourselves through self talk, and forms the basis for the way we communicate with others.
Body
Physiologically we are pumping, holding and flushing oxygen/carbon dioxide into the blood stream and all blood vessels/organs etc for a prolonged amount of time. This alone has scientifically been proven to vastly assist with healing diseases related to auto immune conditions, inflammation, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health. Some health conditions that greatly benefit from breath work include immune conditions, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer, dementia, Parkinson and coronary artery disease just to name a few. Other positive effects include highly increased brain functioning, strengthening of the immune system and removal of toxins in the blood stream through high levels of alkalization.
Spirit
Conscious Breath-work is a specific type of breath work offering a very natural way to experience long deep states of meditation, even for first time participants. The focused breath can be seen as somewhat of a mantra . It serves to slowly begin to take our minds out of the equation. To put it simply, we are coming back to our true selves prior to our personal experiences, prior to our formation of self-identity as separate from all other things. We are consciously existing without thought. This process of offering a break or pause to all thoughts and actions is extremely liberating and healthy for our spirit, lifestyle and connection to source. It is not dissimilar to the idea and purpose fasting for physical health, however this is fasting for the mind for personal, spiritual and emotional growth.

We will be laying down during our immersion into breath, so please make sure to bring the following items:
- yoga mat or even something thicker if you like that will afford you some cushion to be comfortable
- 1 or 2 small pillows for under head/knees
- eyes mask or bandanna/something to cover your eyes that ideally ties
- water and a clean cloth (to wipe your face should you need to)
- a thin type fabric to cover your body if you wish

Derek is an internationally certified Breath-Work/Meditation and Yoga facilitator who lives a unique integrated lifestyle traveling the globe sharing his passion for the eastern arts, music and the ocean. He has facilitated his unique Conscious Breath Workshops as a private contractor for some of the most exclusive companies in the high-end, remote surf resort industry. Some past locations Derek has shared his fused healing modality for mind/body health include Sumbawa, Maldives, Bali, Telos Islands, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, California and Hawaii. Locations include resorts, wellness centers, yoga studios, yacht charters, remote shalas & palapas in the jungle and commercial therapists offices for patients in treatment.
When you meet Derek you will quickly find that he is sincere, passionate and skilled in regards to sharing the work that is so dear to him. "Breath is the sacred bridge between spirit and matter and our breathing patterns are direct physical representations of our mental or emotional states. Derek Thomas facilitates breath-work immersion sessions on-line via zoom. However, in person participation is required for your initial Conscious Breath Workshop. When not traveling he resides in both Kona, Hawaii and Laguna Beach, California where he provides on site Conscious Breath/Meditation Workshops.
